Normally I hate pop-ups of any variety

But this one came up in a site I was visiting, and it just faded in and faded out, and wasn’t obnoxious at all.

I’m linking to the free script page here, in case I ever decide I want to use a pop up.

Tenacious Salesmen

I found this anecdote while perusing the NewspaperArchive.com.

State officials who supervise the sale of peddlers’ licenses required by statute today chuckled over an unusual example of commercial enterprise.

Several Wisconsin cities recently adopted ordinances which make it a misdemeanor for itinerant peddling gentry to enter the premises of residents without explicit invitations.

One of the ordinances was adopted by the city of Bloomer, where residents were told to put up signs warning off peddlers.

Promptly, a shrewd peddler came to town to reap a harvest selling cardboard lawn signs reading: “Peddlers and Solicitors Not Allowed.”

In case the comment spam ever happens to you…

It might be helpful to know that adding the IP to /etc/hosts.deny does nothing to stop it.

Adding the IP to your .htaccess file like this

order deny,allow
deny from 216.69.166.196
allow from all

works splendidly.

Moderation is on

I’m getting comment spammed from one individual with multiple websites. The comments are coming in at a phenomenal rate, and my filters weren’t getting them all, so I’ve turned on moderation until the deluge stops.

I’m also sending off the documentation to GoDaddy, the registrar and host of record for all the domains this person has spammed me with so far.

Aside from the Spam issue, which the InstantBuzz fiasco convinced me GoDaddy takes seriously, the individual failed to provide valid contact information, which is against ALL domain registrar’s TOS. Hopefully GoDaddy will wipe the domain registrations into the ether before the day is out, and I’ll be able to turn on the comments once again.

She did all the work and I became \”Great\”

Yep. I’m a “Great Aunt.” Check out that GREAT in the title. Cool huh? And I didn’t do a thing to deserve it.

Now, my nephew’s poor wife, on the other hand, went through twenty two hours of labour so I could have this title.

Seems a little unfair to her, but heck, I’m not complaining.

Incidentally, the other person who did a lot of work is Micah, he’s my new GREAT nephew. See, he got a title too. :-)

Congratulations M&L
