SezWho? Solving Entrecard’s Bounce Rate Problem

Today Entrecard announced a partnership with SezWho , a universal profile service for the social web designed to engage communities and enable content discovery.

SezWho allows you to set up a profile, and have your comments across blogs using SezWho aggregated. So if you offer an erudite comment on blog A, people who read it can click your profile and see posts from your own blog as well as your comments elsewhere in the blogosphere.

In combination with Entrecard, not only do you get the advantage of a ‘carry along’ profile, but you can earn EC credits for your posts too.

However, we wouldn’t want people running around and writing “nice post” on every blog they see, trying to game the system and earn credits. So the community will be responsible for rating comments, and rating them truthfully. Depending on how well your comments get rated, and who rates them, your comments will earn you a sliding reward ranging from 1 to 10 credits. If your comments get rated poorly, especially by a blog’s owner, you won’t earn a thing.

This rather brilliant move should help to significantly offset the Bounce Rate problem that Entrecard has had.

I’ve just installed the SezWho plugin, and will be watching my Google Analytics carefully to see if it does improve my bounce rate, which went from ~30% before Entrecard to ~75% after.

  • I totally agree about that this is a great plugin. I installed it on the two blogs that I have also but I haven’t had time to make the plugin look nice. I hated the picture icon beside the name and the (Who Am I) thing that pops up when you hover to the person’s name as that’s a resource hog.

I still have the plugin activated but none of those stuff showing. I will continue to monitor too and I hope to hear about your results here!

I gotta end it like this though… nice post!

  • Talking about blogs and blogging, comment quality is a treasure. Commenting is the greatest means by which one can show love to a blogger, the blog and the post in concern.

I have learned of means that encourage readers to comment on posts. Such include Link Love and Do Follow. If SezWho is joining the line, I pray they do something better.

  • Bill:

I’m still waiting for the confirmation email from Sezwho. Will be installing the plugin, and awaiting the great comments from my fellow Entrecarders

  • I guess we will all have to wait and see. I think it can only be a positive thing! A good comment or two is surely nice! Have a great day!

  • I am also interested to see what SezWho will do for my high bounce rate. It seems like a really perfect solution. Hopefully it really is.

  • I added it to all four of mine. It should help in the bounce rate, but also encourages (us) to read the blog. You have to read the blog to be able to write a decent comment. I am looking forward to it. I already have been getting quality comments, but it would be nice to get more. Truthfully, it gave me the incentive to go ahead and comment. i would skim the blog, but not comment. bad me.

  • Having the plugin and getting credits for commenting sort of relieves you of having to do all those drops. Now you can concentrate on reading and commenting instead of site hopping.

You still want to leave quality comments that are relative to the post you’re commenting on.

The only thing is, I don’t see many people “rating” comments. Almost all of them are at the default 3.2. Posts, too. I’m sure people will learn to rate comments and that will get things rolling.

People also still need to stumble and digg posts they find especially worthy.

  • I do like the system and all, just another thing to rate or join or whatever, but how long before it gets “gamed”?

I don’t have time to “game” anything, but I am sure there are some that do.

  • Hi!

Can you explain what you mean by “bounce rate”?

    Thanks!

  • I’m probably not really understanding what this is all about, I just don’t understand how this is going to help. It was hard enough to get people to drop a card on your site and now you want them to drop a card, make a comment and rate other comments? Seems like an awful lot of work. I haven’t set this up on my blog, so if you get a comment from me it means I am really interested in your blog and wrote a comment because I had something relevant to say.

  • Well, I’m OK with the way Buzzfuse uses a rating system.
It’s for the post itself, and not the comments.

I think rating comments is not only a waste of time, it’s also not done.

My comments are usually short, to the point and that’s it.
They maight even contain a language mistake or two, because english is not my main language.

The person rating my comment probably doesn’t know that and rates my comment less because of that.

Makes that my comment less valuable?

Rating the post, that’s OK, because it’ll stop people writing nonsence posts and stop taking subjects from others.

    Have a nice week!

  • I signed up for it, but I haven’t really checked it out too much. Thanks for the informative post. Also, I’m so retarded.. I’ve never even looked at google analytics. :(

  • @Laane: Bounce Rate is the percentage of single-page visits (i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page). Blogs with full posts on the front page, like this one, are bound to have fairly large bounce rates, but with Entrecard, the rate tends to become insanely high as a large number of people just stop and drop.

  • I set sez who up my blog just yesterday. It works well and it does seems to increase the number of comments left and the quality of them. Of course, just one day is hardly enough to have a complete picture, but so far so good. Thanks for the post.

  • I just installed it today. I am still learning how to use it and what is the benefit. Thanks for the post for the great summary in the lay-man term. :)

  • I really like this plug-in though I do agree it could be prettier…I hope it helps with the bounce rate and also causes people to be more likely to read your, cause driving your numbers with entrecard is nice, but really the goal is to get permanent readers and numbers that way.

  • I use my EntreCard credits to further award content/commentators that I like. There is a lot of bad behavior on the Internet and we should encourage the good. It always makes me smile when the credits for posts show up.

  • lvs:

Does entrecard give you points for posting comments on sezwho enabled blogs? I dont get any even though i have linked the two accounts?

definitely we must all comment more…blogging is not just about posting articles, it is also about reading others blogs and commenting. That makes the whole exercise worthwhile for everyone.
